Piano Technicians Guild
Oklahoma Chapter Minutes

April 17, 2003

The meeting opened at 9:13AM and was held at Larsen Music Store in Oklahoma City.

Norman Cantrell gave the invocation.

Bob introduced Morgan Stewart, son of Larry Johnson, Stillwater, and Terry Cast, friend of Don Bonds.

Minutes were read, corrected and accepted.

It was announced that Greg Lynch’s mother-in-law passed away. Also, that Greg did pass the tuning exam and is now a Registered Piano Technician.

No official update information on TSA.

No old business or new business brought up.

Tidbits information: The Delegate’s Council book was presented to Norman Cantrell. David Bonham will be presenting the technical at the May meeting. Valerie Crawford will be doing an internship at Lands’ End in Wisconsin this summer.

The Repair Labor Guide by Joe Garrett of Oregon was shown. Discussion of how to charge for time spent in various activities other than actual piano labor and parts. Square pianos were discussed. Used pianos for sale were discussed.

Keith McGavern presented the technical. The preliminary discussion was held concerning installing Vagias elbows on location and some tips to doing that versus removing the action and installing wood elbow replacements.

The main activity was doing a Pitch Change. The piano used was a used Lindenauer Console made by the Jasper Company. The Reyburn Cybertuner program was used to ascertain the out of tuneness present and to do the pitch modification.

Methods to accomplish the task with the least amount of effort, yet providing the most amount of results were shown and discussed. All in all, it seemed to be worthwhile for those present.

There were nine persons in attendance:
Bob Scheer, Ben Davis, Norman Cantrell, Don Bonds, Keith McGavern, Morgan Stewart, Terry Cast, Rhonda Ringer, David Bonham.

Respectfully submitted,
Keith McGavern, RPT
Chapter Secretary
